GTBank Partners LSFA to Train 300 Coaches


In its resolve at ensuring that the standard of game of football in Lagos State is raised, Guarantee Trust Bank partnered with Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) in the training of 300 coaches in the state.
 
The 3-day training programme was organised for coaches involved in the GTBank Principals Cup tournaments and other grassroots football tournaments in Lagos State with the theme "Raising the Beautiful Game" 
The training which was scheduled for between October 22 and 24 at the sports bar of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere availed the participating coaches an opportunity to learn the fundamental techniques of effective youth coaching and capacity building in various areas which include sports therapy, time management and psychology.

At the end of the training, participants were awarded a LSFA-Level 1 coaching certificate, which according to the general manager of communication and external affairs at GTBank, Lola Odedina, "is the first step in a three level certification programme towards becoming a certified football coach".
Facilitators at the seminar were former Super Eagles Coach, Chief Festus Onigbinde, Dr. Akin George, retie red FIFA barged referee, Calistus Chukwujekwu.
Speaking at a press briefing to herald the seminar, manager, media and communication, GTBank,  Jide Shipe, said the seminar is important to the bank, just as he said a lot of players discovered during the Principals' Cup had gone to excel not only in football but in other endeavours.

"Coaches are crucial to element to sports development. They mentor these players and therefore must be able to motivate them. I enjoined participants to make the best of the opportunity," Shipe said.
In his submission, Chairman, LSFA, Mr. Seyi Akinwumi said GTB has moved the Principals' Cup to a different level, just as he called for a common calendar at the national level.
"I'm glad that GTB has taken the Principals' Cup to other states. We must try and bring back the glory days of national academicals," he noted.

Akinwumi indeed charged coaches that participated at the seminar to impact the right knowledge on the children, saying the kids should be brought up in the best possible manner.
GTBank intends to adequately groom and equip grassroots coaches in Lagos State with modern football techniques and ensure that by 2017 all coaches involved in Principals' Cup and grassroots football in the state have a minimum coaching training requirement.
