THE FINAL RECKONING: Transfer window hits ONE BILLION

And that, fellow insomniacs, is that. The window is not only closed but aside from final confirmation of Falcao's move to Manchester United, all the deals that were expected to be completed have now been done.

The final reckoning, assuming Falcao is complete as club sources expect, is that the 20 Premier League clubs spent £857.7m (which is €1.09bn).

So it was a billion window after all.

Manchester United spent the most, both gross (£153.1m) and net (£122m).

Stoke spent the least, gross, at £3.4m.

But in terms of gross spend, Southampton spent the least because they made £30.7m profit while putting together a squad of replacements for Lallana, Shaw, Rickie Lambert et al awash with possibility.

And Chelsea, believe it or not, also made a profit while becoming Premier League favourites.

Spurs also made a net profit. That’s White Hart Lane for you, Mauricio.

The accompanying table is self explanatory.

We now can now declare this window, official, SHUT.
