Man trades N24.5million diamond ring for N3,000 parcel of weed

By Damilola Jagun

A 20-year-old former UPS employee, Walter Earl Morrison stole a diamond ring worth an estimated $150,000 (N24,585,000) and subsequently pawned it for a $20 (N3,278) parcel of marijuana.

Morrison, who has been charged with felony theft, told the police that “he made a mistake”

In the court documents, it was stated that Walter had been working for United Parcel Service, UPS, at the Sky Harbor Airport in Arizona, where he stole a package and hid it under his shirt while loading cargo onto a plane.

Prosecutors said he thought the parcel contained cash but instead found a diamond ring, after which, he took it a marijuana dealer and traded it for $20 worth of cannabis.

The diamond ring was traced back to him and after confessing, he was arrested for theft and sacked by UPS. The police managed to recover the ring from the weed-dealer Morrison sold it to.

The ring has since been returned for the intended recipient.
