By Funmi Olasupo

The President, National Council of the Nigeria Stock Exchange, Mr. Aigbije Aig-Imoukhuede, said that political institutions and entrepreneurship are the two major factors responsible for the alleviation of poverty in the country.

Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede who stated that the two trusts of the Nigerian project are simply about fixing the nation’s institutions and its entrepreneurship, also stated that, if Nigeria can do the later, the country will be the greatest nation ever.
Presenting a paper titled: Poverty, Development and Growth, Lessons for Nigerians, at the 21st edition of the annual Lift Above Poverty Organization, (LAPO), development forum, in Abuja, the NSE President stated further that “entrepreneurs are necessary for our economy, and we have to begin to change our approach to entrepreneurship as a nation.”

He said, “I argued that the two trusts of the Nigerian project are simply about fixing our institutions and fixing our entrepreneurship, if we do these two things, a time will come when the whole world will bow to Nigeria.

“Irrespective of whether development is eminent or intentional, development is focused on the alleviation of poverty, which is why when I see acronym such as LAPO, I consider it very important because that ‘Lift Above Poverty’ is very powerful and should never be ignored.

Responding, the Chairman of the Occasion, Professor Eddy Erhagbe said once there is poverty, there is bound to be insecurity and thus, the freedom of governance will lead to the need for us to build peace in our country.

According to him, LAPO has clearly established its credibility, dependability, integrity and sustainability which are not common with many organizations in Nigeria.
