A Lagos governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Leke Pitan, has given an indication of hope for the teachers in the state if he is elected the governor of the state in 2015.
Pitan spoke at atwo separate ceremonies for teachers in the state, the first being the Teachers and Benefactors Award organised by the International School of the University of Lagos where he was given a Benefactor’s Award and the second being the free medical outreach for the members of the Academic Staff of Secondary Schools in Lagos state held at the Lagos City College, Yaba.
According to him, teachers would be adequately rewarded and morale boosting incentives would be put in place for them to encourage them.
Dr. Pitan, a former Commissioner for Education in the state, promised to look into all matters concerning teachers, as a matter of urgency once becomes the governor in 2015 promising further to provide a mortgage scheme for teachers.
He said the population of teachers in the state is very high. “They have regular income, they are employed by the state government and lastly they have job security,” he said adding that these considerations are what make mortgage schemes thrive.
He said his administration would do all it could to encourage the best young graduates to join the teaching profession in the state.
He said being a former Commissioner in charge of the ministry puts him in a very good stead to drive the sector in the right direction.
