Manchester United midfielder Daley Blind says that Louis van Gaal is a “specialist” at building successful teams.
United have struggled for consistency since the new manager’s arrival in the summer and sit 12th in the Premier League after registering just five points from as many matches this season.

But Blind is confident that the mentality that Van Gaal has brought to Old Trafford should improve the club’s form.

“Van Gaal is a specialist at building a team,” the former Ajax man told Fox Sports. “Not only on the field, also outside the pitch. His quality is to create a real collective to win games.

“Van Gaal had a lot of confidence in me during the World Cup. After the tournament in Brazil we stayed in touch. He always showed confidence in me and he proved that during the transfer period. Within two days there was a deal.”

Despite the swiftness of his move to Old Trafford, Blind insists that he would have been happy to stay at Ajax but that it was difficult to turn down the chance to join United.

“After the World Cup there was a lot of speculation and it remained that way. That was fine for me because I felt good at Ajax. I didn’t think about leaving but it’s always great when a club like United follows you. A dream came true,” said the 24-year-old.

“Ajax said that I only could leave when a big club makes an offer. Not every club would have reached an agreement with Ajax but you don’t deny an offer of United. There was no doubt.”
