Stolen crude oil supply has been discovered in juju shrines and septic tanks by Joint Military Task Force’ officials.
The security agents, who operate under the code-name ‘Operation Pulo Shield’, confirmed that the crude oil was found buried inside juju shrines, sitting rooms and septic tanks, in some communities of Delta and Bayelsa states.
The coordinator of the Joint Media Campaign Centre of the Task Force, Lieutenant-Colonel Mustapha Anka, disclosed that the squad uncovered the new tactics applied by oil thieves and illegal oil bunkerers operating in the Niger Delta.
The discovery was preceded by the seizure of a sewage truck with 12,000 capacity loaded with stolen crude.
“The sewage truck was intercepted on Ibada Amukpe community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State. The sewage truck was declared to be carrying waste and heading to disposal dump by the occupants, but was discovered to be carrying illegally acquired crude oil.”
“Both the suspects and the product are in the custody of the JTF for preliminary investigation, before handing them over to prosecuting agency.”
Anka also revealed that a JTF team working in Bayelsa and River states arrested a 33,000 capacity trunk with Lagos registration number RRP 132 XA, containing substance believed to be illegally acquired Automated Gas Oil (AGO).
“The suspects abandoned the trucks and fled on sighting the troops. Both the trucks and its contents have been destroyed.
“The task force also extricated 17 illegal oil bunkering camps along freedom creek, where oil thieves operates with six Cotonou boats,13 crude oil reservoir and a boat filled with suspected stolen oil.”
