Emergency landing shuts Abuja Airport print
By Simon Ateba
The Abuja international airport has been shut following an emergency landing on the runway, airports sources said on Friday.
Authorities were not available for comments but a source at the airport said a small aircraft, a Cessna 172 Skyhawk, made an emergency landing on the runway and was yet to be towed for other planes to take off or land.
The airport in the Nigerian capital has only one runway. It has been shut several times in recent months due to similar incidents.
A source said many passengers were stranded at the airport and several places had to divert to Kano and Kaduna airports.
Activists had urged the government in the past to build a second runway in Abuja.
