Ebola: Oyo to establish isolation centres in 33 LGAs

An epidemiologist in Oyo State Ministry of Health, Dr Abbas Gbolahan, on Friday said that the 33 local governments have been directed to establish Ebola isolation centres to curtail its spread.

Gbolahan made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.

He said that the government was particularly concern about establishing the centres, especially in border towns of Iwajowa, Itesiwaju and Igbeti.

The epidemiologist said that efforts were in top gear to establish the centres also at the senatorial zones in the state.

Gbolahan said that the ministry in collaboration with the WHO, UNICEF and UCH, had begun sensitisation in all police, army barracks, immigrations and the railways.

“Sixteen port officers have been trained at border posts and health facilities in border communities have been designated as ‘holding areas’ to isolate any suspect.

“Endeavour to use chlorine (Bleach) in general house cleaning and wash your hands thoroughly with soaps and water or use sanitiser,’’ he said.
