Contrary to reports that the deadly Ebola Virus Disease had spread to Delta State, the State’s Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah, has stated that it’s all false claims.
The Commissioner, while speaking recently in a television interview, said that although several ill patients had been brought into the state’s Federal Medical Centre in Asaba with what seemingly looked like Ebola symptoms, blood samples revealed that they suffered from some other ailments.
Ogeah revealed that there was also a similar case of a diabetic patient who was brought in severely ill with the fear of a possible Ebola infection, but it was later discovered that he had aggravated his condition by consuming a lot of salt based on the rumour of its capacity to cure Ebola. This patient later died.
He stressed that people would always fall ill and fever would always be one of the regular symptoms but that should not always lead to rumours of Ebola.
He also said that a crack team of medical experts have been set up to ensure that the health workers in the state also update their knowledge of the virus and adhere to modern management skills.
He noted that Delta State has taken all necessary steps to keep the state safe and what would be needed from the citizens is cooperation.
