Apple Iwatch Unveiled. What's your take?

Tim Cook; Apple CEO launched a new watch in a typical Apple slick fashion. It's the first new product line since the first iPad and the death of its co-founder Steve Jobs.

The device run apps and will also have a fitness / health tracker. It will also communicate with the I-Phone.

A watch is not new to us. We wear them everyday, we also have fond memories of some watch related TV series. You will all remember Dick Tracy, Knight Rider, Inspector Gadget, Power Rangers, Fuzzy Memories Watch and The Jetsons.

What are the most interesting features?

Apple Watch is fully customisable. You can adjust everything from the type and style of the watch face, to the materials used to make the watch and the strap.

The Watch allows use of full apps - though the details of exactly what's possible and which apps will be available are yet to be revealed.

Music can be stored on the Apple Watch itself, making it possible to take the device running while listening via Bluetooth headphones.

The Watch has something called 'Taptic' feedback, which physically taps you on the wrist to inform you of different things - say to turn left or right in maps.

There are some cool new forms of messaging specially built for the Apple Watch - including a style of Emoji which lets users modify animated icons and faces and send them to other users, and a freestyle 'sketch' based app, allowing you to send small or abstract messages easily.

Apple Watch has a huge focus on fitness and health. Tim Cook said that the Watch will appeal to anyone getting exercise - whether that's walking to work or being a serious athlete. The Watch is loaded with sensors and a heart rate monitor, and constantly monitors and motivates you to be more healthy.

You can use it as a viewfinder for your iPhone, a remote for the Apple TV and much more.
    All the Watches are waterproof.

The Reviews

Gizmodo:

Maybe the cleverest part of the Apple Watch's design is how you control it. Instead of relying on multi-touch gestures designed for bigger screens, the Apple Watch leans on the use of the "digital crown," aka "the spinny knob" aka that thing you typically use to adjust the time... Think clickwheel 2.0.

Wired:

An intriguing feature is the Maps app, which in addition to offering directions also takes advantage of the haptic vibration system inside the device. In practice, this allows Apple's Maps app to not only plot a journey from your current location, but guide you using different types of vibrations on the wrist.

The Verge:

Apple left out some key details about the product, such as screen resolution, processing capabilities, and most importantly, expected battery life.... It also doesn't bode well that the display is not always on and only lights up when you move your wrist or interact with the watch

The design of the watch means that it cannot be worn while recharging

Financial Times:

What's the psychology behind showing your audience a rapid-fire demo of your most important new product for years, then blasting them senseless with a deafening rock band? Maybe it's to bludgeon us all into submission.

Wall Street Journal:

OK, someone tell me why I need to share my heart rate with another Apple Watch owner. Honest question. I guess if I am very close to my caregiver.

Techcrunch:

It seems spectacular, worlds better than other solutions. No doubt there are countless other consumer companies gearing up to announce their Android Wear devices. And now, instead of simply competing with the round-faced Moto 360, they have to announce their device in the face of the Apple Watch.

It's premature to conclude that you need an Apple Watch. I had only about 45 minutes with the Apple Watch and other new products announced Tuesday. The watch I was allowed to try on was running in a demonstration mode. It'll take more time with the watch — beyond a controlled environment — to make a solid conclusion.

What I'm seeing so far, however, points to another winner for Apple.

The Apple Watch is going to cost around $349 at launch, but UK pricing is still TBC. At that price, you are getting not only an impressive piece of tech, but a very premium watch. The problem is that it's a lot more expensive than basically all the Android Wear competition.

– DIGITAL SPY

I didn't know that the watch from Apple will be this cool in terms of design. The only detail that's been cleverly omitted is the battery life and privacy element of data being collected. All in all, I believe it's the sleekest product from Apple for a while. Apple's entry into the sector will also create more awareness and excitement in the wearable sector. Definitely expect more apps from next iteration of the watch.
