Lagos yet to get N200m Ebola aid
By Femi Akinola
Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola says the N200 million financial support pledged by the federal government to fight the Ebola Virus Disease is yet to reach the state.
The governor said in an interview with newsmen that the assistance would go a long way in containing spread of the disease but noted that there could perhaps be more paper works before the release. He commended the state Ministry of Health for its efforts in combating the scourge, saying all the confirmed and suspected cases have been linked to the index case.
He said while the state government is preparing for the worst and hoping for the best in containing the virus, it is still reminding the people that contact with the virus is not a death sentence and that increased personal hygiene such as washing of hands regularly with soap and water is essential.
He emphasized that the Ebola attack in Nigeria is the first time it is occurring in an urban centre and that the whole world is watching the country on how it deals with it, which may be a defining experience for the global community.
