FifthGear Plus Unveils Marketplace Readiness Programme

By Anayo Okolie

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of unemployment in Nigeria, a concerned group, FifthGear Plus, has officially launched Marketplace Readiness Programme. The programme is sponsored by Microsoft, Etisalat Nigeria, Elevation Church, Daystar Assembly, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Credit Direct and Lekki Gardens.

Speaking at the unveiling of the programme, the Chief Executive Officer of FifthGear Plus Mr. Niyi Adesanya, said the idea of MRP came up in 2007, when he noticed that a large chunk of corps members were not market relevant, and thus not able to secure jobs due to the rise in Nigerian unemployment rate.

According to him, the name Marketplace Readiness was adopted because it is relevant to both the workplace readiness for those who will take up paid employment and business place readiness for those who will end up establishing their own businesses.
The first set of participants in the programme, he said are 50 corps members divided into five teams of 10 members each, namely; Healthy and Happy Team, I-code Team, Team Aca-medic, The initiators and The Eye. Each of these teams is presently involved in community development project in selected public primary and secondary schools within the State, with the intention of completion.
